Die Smokey was created following an idea: affordable and good, with simple means and if possible without
Tools (except soldering iron and screwdriver) to create a speaker kit that also
optically suitable for the living room. How is this possible without painting or veneering and without tools? Well,
variant also has the access and experience of a furniture joinery. We gave the colleagues free
Run to transform ideas and concepts into solutions. The result was a concept in which the independent
entwickelte Bausatz Smokey can be perfectly integrated. The Smokey houses the brand new
Mid-woofer from Dayton Audio with the carbon fiber cone. As a tweeter, we provided it with
the most popular tweeter from Dayton Audio, ND25FW-4. With its short horn or waveguide, it is
the perfect companion. Together, they create a soundscape that, given the small size of this box
nothing to be desired. The optional selectable housing completes this kit, which not only
for the DIY professionals, but especially for those who want to try or start. Caution,
successful DIY can be addictive.

The waveguide faceplate controls dispersion to minimize ceiling and wall reflections, which in turn leads to an increase in efficiency across most of the passband. Unlike conventional flat-faceplate dome tweeters whose directivity does not match the midwoofer driver near the crossover frequency, the ND25FW-4's waveguide is curved to maintain consistent directivity at the transition. The waveguide also acts as a low-compression horn, lowering distortion. Waveguide-loaded dome tweeters are embraced within the industry for providing directivity control and mild horn loading without the negative effects of compression loading such as impulse smear and throat distortion where high levels are not needed. The waveguide profile used in the ND25FW-4 provides a minimum dispersion angle of about 90 degrees, and maintains directivity control to about 2,000 Hz, but the round waveguide will install easily into the same 104 mm standard tweeter cutout used commonly by dome tweeters with larger ferrite motors.
