A small speaker with a big sound! The new Signature drivers from Dayton Audio are quite attractive and reasonably priced. A sturdy yet delicate cast basket with 6 mounting holes provides more than enough support. The inverse aluminium dome cone is extremely robust and black anodised.The Apart 120 has proven itself as a small floor-standing and sideboard speaker. With its slim design and slightly angled positioning, it was the most convincing speaker in our rooms. Initially, a longer and lower tuned line was planned, but for a little more level stability, a tuning at 45Hz was dispensed with. We found this to work absolutely satisfactorily. A -3dB point at 70Hz, which extends up to 60Hz depending on the room acoustics, provides tight bass without being overly boomy. The frequency response shows a gentle decrease over the entire range, with a slight increase above 12kHz, which is not noticeable in terms of sound. The crossover frequency is 2000Hz with an 18dB slope, an impedance linearisation and voltage divider in front of the tweeter, which can be wonderfully regulated with resistance values in a 12-step +1dB/-1dB range.The insulation is easy to install. At the beginning (in the tapered part), a mat of polyester wadding measuring 45-50cm x 45-50cm is used, which reaches up to the upper edge of the separating component. At the larger end of the line, below the BR tube, another mat of polyester wadding measuring approximately 45cm x 45cm is rolled up tightly so that the inner end of the tube remains free.The tweeter is already well known and has already been convincing several times under different names. Das erschöpft sich dann auch nicht in einem kurzen „Ach die Kleine kann ja richtig laut“-Effekt, sondern geht auch dauerhaft, denn der saubere und dynamische Klang ist durch und durch langzeittauglich. Gute Box! Thomas Schmidt / Klang & Ton 6/2023 Kleine Box ganz Groß! Die neuen Signature Chassis von Dayton Audio sind durchaus als hübsch anzusehen und preisgünstig. Ein stabiler und dennoch filigraner Gusskorb mit 6 Befestigungslöchern bietet mehr als genug Halt. Die inverse Aluminiumkalottenmembran ist extrem robust und schwarz eloxiert. Die Apart 120 hat sich als kleine Bodenstand- und Sideboard-Box bewährt. Mit ihrer schlanken Bauweise und leicht angewinkelten Positionierung überzeugte sie in unseren Räumen am meisten. Zunächst war eine längere und tiefer abgestimmte Line geplant, aber für etwas mehr Pegelfestigkeit wurde auf eine Abstimmung bei 45Hz verzichtet. Dies funktioniert absolut zufriedenstellend, wie wir finden. Ein -3dB- Punkt bei 70Hz, der je nach Raumakustik bis zu 60Hz reicht, sorgt für straffen Bass, ohne übermäßig wummernd zu wirken. Der Frequenzgang zeigt eine sanfte Abnahme über den gesamten Bereich, wobei oberhalb von 12kHz noch eine leichte Anhebung zu verzeichnen ist, die sich klanglich jedoch nicht bemerkbar macht. Die Trennfrequenz liegt bei 2000Hz mit einer 18dB-Flankensteilheit, einem Impedanzlinearisierungs- und Spannungsteiler vor dem Hochtöner, der sich wunderbar mit Widerstandswerten in einer 12er-Reihe +1dB/-1dB regulieren lässt. Die Dämmung ist einfach durchzuführen. Am Anfang (im verjüngten Teil) wird stark gestopft, wobei eine Matte Polyesterwatte im Format 45-50cm x 45-50cm verwendet wird, die bis zur Oberkante des Trennungsbauteils reicht. Am größeren Ende der Line, unterhalb des BR-Rohrs, wird eine weitere Matte mit etwa 45cm x 45cm Polyesterwatte fest zusammengerollt, sodass das innere Ende des Rohres frei bleibt. Der Hochtöner ist bereits bekannt und hat unter verschiedenen Namen bereits mehrfach überzeugt. Das leere Fach hinter dem Hochtöner bietet Platz für die Frequenzweiche (Hinweis: Bei der späteren Montage der Weiche sollte diese eher länglich aufgebaut werden, wobei die Ausschnittmaße des Hochtöners beachtet werden sollten). Beim Befestigen des Montagerahmens für den Hochtöner sollte man behutsam vorgehen, da der Rahmen sehr zierlich ist und sich bei zu starkem Anschraubdruck verbiegen kann. Das Löten des Hochtöners sollte vermieden werden, da zu hohe Hitze die Folie beschädigen kann. Beim SIG120-4 ist das Löten hingegen unbedenklich, da es die sicherste Verbindung ist. Eine Sockelplatte oder andere stabilisierende Maßnahmen sollten unbedingt in Betracht gezogen werden. Der Bausatz enthält außerdem 2x1,5qmm Lautsprecherlitze (Meterware) und Flachstecker zum Krimpen, ein Anschlussterminal mit soliden vergoldeten Schraubklemmen sowie edle Innensechskant-Holzschrauben zur Befestigung von Chassis und Terminal. Natürlich bieten wir auch Gehäuseoptionen an, vom einfachen MDF- Gehäuse mit Schallwand und eingefrästen Öffnungen für die Chassis (auch hinterfräst) bis hin zum fertig verleimten und/oder lackierten Gehäuse. Schallwand und Bausatz sind standardmäßig in rohem MDF oder schwarz durchgefärbtem MDF erhältlich. Sonderwünsche wie MPX oder Echtholz werden selbstverständlich ebenfalls erfüllt.
