The Great Home Theater Center
If you look at the now widely used miniature home theater sets, two things stand out:
1.) To trust the fist-sized boxes in thin plastic housings to produce even an adequate sound requires more optimism than even a cheerful speaker technician can muster. The fact is that compared to a seriously constructed high-fidelity speaker, the limitations of such sets are unmistakable.
2.) Even in these systems, which are trimmed for miniaturization and low cost, there are often centers that include at least a dual configuration of the system's other effect speaker full-range drivers.
In the second point, it is summarized that in a surround system, the center ultimately has the most important and demanding role to fulfill. Energetically as well as sonically, the performance of a home theater system rises and falls with the center, then the subwoofer, then the front speakers, and finally the rear speakers - always assuming that all are at least present.
